WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY
“We installed the galvanized steel spiral on our deck two years ago. It’s been through two brutal New England winters and looks exactly the same as the day we put it in. The installation took us one Saturday — my neighbor couldn’t believe we did it ourselves.”
Robert M.
Concord, NH
Galvanized Steel — Deck Access
“The aluminum staircase for our rooftop terrace was the perfect solution. Lightweight, rust-proof, and it looks incredible. The Iron Shop team walked us through every measurement and the permit documentation was included. Couldn’t be happier.”
Sandra & Tom K.
Miami Beach, FL
Aluminum Series — Rooftop Terrace
“As a contractor I’ve installed dozens of these. The Trex® composite series is my go-to recommendation for clients who already have a Trex® deck. Zero maintenance, matches perfectly, and the kits go together fast. The Iron Shop’s support team is top notch.”
Dave P.
General Contractor, Austin, TX
Trex Composite — Pool Surround
“Ordering spiral staircases over the internet from a Pennsylvania supplier (we are in Cincinnati, Ohio) was a bit daunting. And, indeed, they cost significantly more than offered at Home Depot or Lowes. Steve was our sales rep and he was very responsive. ”
Sean Michaels
Lewes, Delaware

OUTDOOR STAIRCASE FAQ

Do outdoor staircases need to be painted?
Steel outdoor staircases should be painted to inhibit rust and protect your investment. We recommend an oil-based enamel with rust-inhibiting additive, applied after assembly. Aluminum stairs require no paint – mill finish is standard, though powder coat is available in a range of colors if you prefer a finished look.
Can I install the staircase myself?
Yes! Most outdoor spiral staircase kits from The Iron Shop can be assembled by two people with basic hand tools – no contractor required for the installation itself. We do recommend consulting a qualified contractor for cutting and framing the floor opening. Metal kits typically take one full day to assemble.
What's the best material for a coastal or waterfront environment?
For ocean, lake, or any waterfront setting, we recommend an all-aluminum staircase. Aluminum is naturally rust-free and requires no painting, making it the most durable long-term option in high-moisture and salt-air environments.
Do you offer code-compliant outdoor designs?
Yes. The Iron Shop offers Code and Non-Code stair configurations. Code stairs meet IBC/IRC requirements with in-between spindles (less than 4″ spacing between verticals) and compliant tread dimensions. Our design consultants can help you determine which configuration is required for your project and municipality.
