WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY
“We installed the galvanized steel spiral on our deck two years ago. It’s been through two brutal New England winters and looks exactly the same as the day we put it in. The installation took us one Saturday — my neighbor couldn’t believe we did it ourselves.”
Robert M.
Concord, NH
Galvanized Steel — Deck Access
“The aluminum staircase for our rooftop terrace was the perfect solution. Lightweight, rust-proof, and it looks incredible. The Iron Shop team walked us through every measurement and the permit documentation was included. Couldn’t be happier.”
Sandra & Tom K.

Aluminum Series — Rooftop Terrace
“As a contractor I’ve installed dozens of these. The Trex® composite series is my go-to recommendation for clients who already have a Trex® deck. Zero maintenance, matches perfectly, and the kits go together fast. The Iron Shop’s support team is top notch.”
Dave P.
General Contractor, Austin, TX
Trex Composite — Pool Surround
“Ordering spiral staircases over the internet from a Pennsylvania supplier (we are in Cincinnati, Ohio) was a bit daunting. And, indeed, they cost significantly more than offered at Home Depot or Lowes. Steve was our sales rep and he was very responsive. ”

INDOOR STAIRCASE FAQ

Call a spiral stair expert at 1-800-523-7427.

What's the difference between Code and Non-Code stairs?
Code-compliant stairs meet IBC and IRC requirements for primary-use staircases – including spindle spacing of less than 4 inches between verticals and specific tread dimensions. Non-Code stairs are typically used for secondary access (lofts, attics, storage areas) where building code does not apply. Your design consultant can help determine which is right for your project and local requirements.
What measurements do I need before I order?
Two critical measurements: your finished floor-to-floor height, and your well opening size. The finished well opening must be at least 2″ larger than the stair diameter overall. If you haven’t cut your opening yet, your consultant can walk you through how to factor in subflooring and finished floor thickness.
How long does installation take?
Most two-person crews can install a standard metal kit in about one full day. Oak and Code metal kits typically take two days. You’ll need a ladder, drill, level, and basic hand tools – no specialty equipment required.
Can I get wood treads on a metal staircase?
Yes! The Iron Shop offers tread covers in 7 wood species for interior stairs: American Cherry, Hickory, Mahogany, Maple, Red Oak, Walnut, and White Oak. Wood tread covers are installed over the metal tread base and are one of the most popular ways to customize the look of a metal spiral stair for interior use.
